A turnover is everything that happens between one guest checking out and the next checking in. Done well, it protects your reviews, your property and your rating. Done inconsistently, it quietly erodes all three.
Why a consistent turnover matters
Guests rarely remember a spotless property — but they always remember the hair in the shower or the coffee pod that wasn't there. On platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com, cleanliness is the single most-weighted category in your review score. A missed detail in one turnover can cost you a five-star rating and, over time, your placement in search.
Consistency is also your protection. A documented, repeatable turnover creates a record of your property's condition between bookings, which helps resolve security-deposit disputes and keeps small issues — a slow drain, a scuffed wall — from becoming expensive ones.
The room-by-room checklist
- Strip and replace all linens, including duvet covers and pillowcases
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces: switches, remotes, handles and door knobs
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms, including mirrors, fixtures and glass
- Degrease kitchen surfaces, appliances and the inside of the microwave
- Empty all trash bins and replace liners
- Restock consumables: toilet paper, soap, coffee and paper towels
- Run the dishwasher and put every dish away
- Vacuum carpets and mop all hard floors
- Make beds hotel-style, with crisp folds and staged pillows
- Complete a final walk-through and photograph each room
